Assistant Professor

Biomedical & Chemical Engineering

Lab/Center Affiliation:

Syracuse Biomaterials Institute

Research interests:

  • Biomaterials
  • Wound Healing
  • Tissue Engineering

Current Research:

The Monroe lab utilizes basic and application-focused research to fabricate and characterize polymeric biomaterials with improved healing outcomes. The long-term research vision is to make fundamental advances in polymer chemistry that enable safer and more effective medical devices. Current research projects include (1) the development of shape memory polymer foam hemostats to control bleeding in gunshot wounds and (2) synthesis and characterization of shape memory polymer hydrogels for chronic wound healing.

Teaching Interests:

  • Polymers
