To allow you to enroll in the courses most appropriate for you, Syracuse University has developed an online registration process called First Term Enrollment Selection (FTES)—available on myslice.syr.edu beginning June 1, 2021.

Discovery Madrid students do not need to complete the FTES. You will receive an information packet in June for your discovery center from Syracuse Abroad with course offerings, schedule, and field study.

Please follow the instructions below to complete your FTES course selection by June 21, 2021.

Step 1: Confirm your browser is compatible with MySlice. 
For information on which browsers are fully supported, review the MySlice supported browsers. 

Step 2: Activate your Net ID and password at http://its.syr.edu/netid/.

Step 3: Complete the Mathematics Placement Exam.

The Mathematics Placement Exam is required for all ECS students and must be completed before you complete your FTES. It is found online at myslice.syr.edu. For assistance, review the Mathematics Placement Exam instructions. The results of the exam will allow us to recommend preliminary placement in a math course in your first semester. Your final placement will be determined based on another assessment given during Orientation Weekend.

Step 4: Locate the FTES in MySlice.

Sign into myslice.syr.edu and select “Enrollment – First Term Enrollment Selections” located in the Student Service listing.

Step 5: Page 1 of FTES:

• Review Name, address, college and major
• If you are interested in participating in “The Pride of the Orange,” Syracuse University Marching Ban or ROTC, make the appropriate selection.
• Beginning in Mid-July you will be automatically registered by the Student Records Office, for the required courses unless you expect to receive external credit. Students typically take 15-17 credits in the first semester.
• Review the Chemistry, Writing, ECS major and Academic Excellence Workshop Sections.

Step 6: Page 2 of FTES: External Examinations or Transfer Credits.

If you expect to receive Advanced Placement examination credit, IB, CLEP exams scores, Syracuse University Project Advance credit, or transfer credit make sure to include this on your FTES. Please submit official transcripts/scores directly to:

Step 7: Page 3 of FTES: Choose a Social Science or Humanities Elective. 

(If you are a computer engineering or mechanical engineering major, please skip this step.)

Choose one elective from “Courses Available to First-Year Students.” Please indicate your first choice and up to three alternate choices in case we are unable to accommodate your first choice.

Step 8: Page 3 of FTES: Choose a Replacement Elective.

If you are coming in with AP/college credit, you may replace related courses with an elective course. Choose the elective from “Courses Available to First-Year Students.” Please indicate your first choice and up to three alternate choices in case we are unable to accommodate your first choice.

Step 9: Page 4 of FTES: Review and Confirm your Selections.

Click “Submit Final Course Selections” to confirm.
